Propane or acetylene cutting cylinders?

Propane is cheaper than acetylene and easier to transport. Unlike acetylene, propane cannot be used for gas welding because it does not have the properties to create a reduction zone that cleans the metal surface. Acetylene achieves a higher combustion temperature and provides a better quality cut than propane.

What is oxygen fuel welding?

Both oxygen and fuel gas are utilized to heat the metal being cut. The "jet" of oxygen is then passed through the center, whereby oxygen and fuel gas on both sides heat the metal. The combination causes a reaction through the center to form "slag". The oxygen jet forces the slag downward by cutting the metal to the desired location.

Make sure that the oxygen and fuel gas are heated below the melting point to prevent the metal from melting before cutting. The melting point must be lower than the surrounding metal in order for the slag jet to be forced through the metal.

What is oxygen burn surgery?

The metal is heated by a burner to the flash point before the metal is trained in an oxygen stream which burns it into a metal oxide before it flows out as solid impurities.

What is a fire cutter?

The shear torch is similar to a welding torch, it differs in that it has an oxygen blow trigger / lever. It has a 70 or 90 degree angle head.

What is a welding torch?

The welding torch does not have an oxygen blow trigger unlike the shear torch. However, it has one / two tubes running into the nozzle and two valve knobs at the bottom of the handle that allow the welder to change the oxygen and fuel flow.

What is an injector burner?

It is also known as an equilibrium burner and combines two gases. The nozzle sucks oxygen at high pressure inside the burner, drawing the fuel gas into tandem.

What is an acetylene burner?

The acetylene burner has one / two hoses that are connected to two separate oxygen and acetylene tanks. These two gases are used together to heat the metal.

What is the difference between a cutting torch and a welding torch?

A cutting torch cuts metal, while a welding torch melts and joins metal pieces together.

Can the acetylene torch be welded?

Yes, acetylene is hot enough to melt steel and weld two pieces of metal together.

What kind of gas burners are there?

  • Overpressure type

  • Low pressure / injector type

  • The high-pressure burner supplies oxygen and acetylene to the nozzle and has control valves to change the pressure as needed.

What are the parts of a gas cutting torch?

  • Neck

  • Nozzle

  • Arm

What's in the gas cutting torch kit?

  • Checkers

  • Controls

  • Hose

  • Tips

  • Gas tanks

How thick can a material be cut with an oxygen acetylene torch?

200mm

What are the three different welding flames?

  • Natural flame

  • Carbon flame

  • Oxidizing flame

How does gas cutting work?

The additive fed through the torch is heated to form a welding pool which is used to join the metals.

Can the torch be welded?

Yes, welding requires proper attachment to the nozzle.

What are the benefits of oxygen burn surgery?

  • It can cut to a thickness of 0.5-250 mm

  • equipment and supplies are inexpensive

  • different gas cutting nozzles can be used for different types of welding

What is the maximum neutral flame temperature of propane in oxygen?

2,822 degrees Celsius

At what temperature does the oxygen / propanol flame burn?

About 2,253 ° C

At what temperature does the oxygen / acetylene flame burn?

3,500 ° C

What are the common types of fuel gas?

  • Acetylene

  • Propane

  • MAPP

  • Propylene

  • Natural gas

Fuel gas characteristic table

The acetylene flame temperature and primary heat distribution are the highest of the common flue gas types. Propane has a lower flame temperature than acetylene, but has the highest secondary heat distribution. Natural gas has the lowest flame temperature and the smallest distribution of primary and secondary heat.
